Description
Join us on Saturday, November 10, at 6:30 pm, on the 43 anniversary of the tragic loss of the Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior, for an evening of captivating discussion on modern Great Lakes shipping and rare film documentaries on famous modern time Great Lakes shipwrecks including the Edumnd Fitgerald.

This year we have an exciting two part program including a presentation by an active Great Lakes Ship Master, Captain Kevin Collard.

The kickoff lecture by Great Lakes sailor and shipping historian and enthusuast Scott Donovan, will focus on the sinking of the Daniel J. Morrell on Lake Huron, on November 29, 1966 with the loss of 27 US merchant sailors. The sinking left one survivor Dennis Hale who survived over 30 hours in an open life raft before being resucued by the USCG. Scott, who years ago met Mr. Hale and heard the entire story in person, one on one will share his knowledge of the wreck and Mr. Hale's amazing survival. The Daniel J. Morrell frequently visited Buffalo and had actually just visited Buffalo before her sinking.

We are very excited to announce our keynote speaker, Canadian Great Lakes Captain Kevin Collard, Ship Master with Lower Lakes Towing. Captain Collard's experience on the lakes is vast and started in 1977 aboard the classic Lake freighter the Seaway Queen. He has been master on many classic lake Freighters including the Saginaw (Former ASC John J. Bolland), Mississagi (George A. Sloan), Robert S. Pierson (former Olgleby Norton, Woverine) as well many other vessels. Captain Collard will discuss shipping on the Great Lakes shipping and storm management.

Ticket price includes admission to the lecture and a glass of your choice of any of the locally crafted draft ciders or beers on tap at the Cider Hall. The Buffalo Cider Hall bar will be open during and after the program.
