Former municipal affairs minister takes over from Matti Vanhanen.
Finland's parliament today elected Mari Kiviniemi as the country's new prime minister.

She replaces Matti Vanhanen, who resigned on Friday (18 June) after seven years as prime minister. Kiviniemi, 41, who took over as head of the liberal Centre Party two weeks ago, is to be officially sworn in at a ceremony with Tarja Halonen, the president of Finland, later today.
