Encroyable. Merci Beaucoup/Thank you for the Summertime sleuthing Tõnu, what would "the good guys" do without stellar Gentlemen like You. I know you can't say it, being a pillar of truth and knowledge in the Toronto Selts, but I can from my perch beside Gittche Gumee . . . this is SOVIET-style subterfuge and Toronto Estonians (not everyone mind you, but alot!) have been hoodwinked, hook, line, sinker, oops, mixing similes, my cup runneth over. The horror, the horror. Be brave Tõnu, hearts rule, truth will always triumph. Peace, Love, Woodstock and Happy Canada Day!

EWR Dumpster Fire28 Jun 2021 06:07
“Reporting” about an ad that ran in a local newspaper without any context or information is not journalism. However, this is not surprising given the dumpster fire this platform is.
context?28 Jun 2021 11:58
"ad that ran in a local newspaper" alongside "CASH 4 SCRAP". Please, what can you add to this?

EWR Dumpster Fire, Really- what don't you understand? Let me 'splain it to you: a cheesey little paper, a "Probe Ad", a feeler, selling out a SACRED Columbarium- a sanctuary of our fellow Estonian belovéds . . . being pawned off in said cheesey-little-non descript paper. For shame. As for 'Joudu edasi', (edasi kus?) perhaps Silvia Trel, the irony of the Jimmy Fallon sketch eludes you:" Come figure out whatever our deal is". The "deal" in Toronto as it reads now to any thinking person is beyond reason and to remind BOTH of you: The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, CLause II (Guarantees of Freedom), part (b) Freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication. Amen. Thank you Canada.

Thankfully a younger generation of activists is taking over the community. It’s amazing that we have survived the sheer laziness and destructiveness of the “Me Generation”.

Rita, you misunderstood the comment.
It was meant to offer encouragement for Tõnu.

You are spot on! Good things are happening and you still have the same chorus of Trumpist, conspiracy-mongering stooges bent on obstruction, slander, and dishonesty. Me me me is all they know. Thankfully these types will soon be a memory.
rkomendant@studiok.ca29 Jun 2021 17:12
to minge senele et al, Memory this: the scars on my parents bodies from STARVATION, the scars on my Father's body, hunks of flesh out of his beautiful broad shouldered back, legs, a finger missing. Memory this: All the smiling Köögi Naised, Susi Kolga at the helm at Jõekääru, letti taga, smiling at their 200+ charges, feeding us the best of what money could buy from Local Farmers and Toronto's elite Estonian Bakers, regarding and treating each one of us as their own. Memory this: ALL the volunteers, who devoted their time and energy and creativity, for Eesti Kool, Kalev Kergejõustikku Klub track&field practice 2x a week at Victoria Park CI.
Sorry you were not there, you would not be shooting your mouth off like this about my generation. Clearly, you don't know what you are talking about, where you come from and who you are. You are in league with others, older than you who have lost their bearings. Päh on all of you, you make me want to barf.

So what have these 'activists' done ?
ar28 Jun 2021 16:55
Another shameful problem from our beloved Estonian Lutheran Church. Minister M.Salumäe went on a paid 2 month holiday to Estonia, and left this piece of innuendo behind for the hiding congregation. This article above should be passed around all Estonians of faith and it will be.
To AR28 Jun 2021 18:07
We have no idea what this advertisement meant or what it is intended to achieve because the guy who wrote this half-cocked piece never did what professional journalists should do: call the church to ask about it! This nonsense is nothing more than ignorant speculation and an irrational rant about an advertisement.
Alfons29 Jun 2021 10:51
This proves that people cannot think on their own. As I read it, understand this, the reporting of an ad that appeared in a throw-away freebie was just to let the community know. Not like the church let the congregation know... Calling the church is pointless when the minister is away. Who on the board of directors to call? Not provided in the Public Notice. This is not investigative journalism as in Bob Woodward. It is just reporting that this ad appeared in a peculiarly chosen publication that no one reads, just, perhaps, am guessing, to avoid scrutiny but to fulfil some legal requirement. Nobody knows anything about what the notice intends. Until we know AS A COMMUNITY any spurious guesses should be avoided. The filth that gets thrown around these days is hardly Christian. Is that not the intent of St. Peter's - to serve the faithful? How do you do this with an ad in a flyer driven freebie. Thanky you T6nu for bringing this to our attention.
ar29 Jun 2021 18:33
Wait, hear this, perhaps it is a clumsy effort by the now older Board to inform congregation that have purchased niches in the St. Peter's church yard of new burial regulations. However, to dump it into a non-descript local rag paper, where few people will find it or even read it unforgiveable. Even the Esto paper doesn't have many readers anymore because of cost of subscription per year.

To "Minge Seenele"... "thank goodness a younger generation of activists are taking over...?" Really? With whose money are you building the new community center? When the "older" generation arrived in Canada and built St. Peter's, it was with their own sweat and money. The whole community chipped in and worked. There was no inheritance money to use because everyone came to Canada with just the clothes on their back and one suitcase. You are now using that generation's money to build the community center. You are not doing this same thing at all. This younger generation is buying houses that they can't afford, because their parents are helping them. They are financing the community center, with the money from their grandparents and from those who had time to build businesses and investments, not like the 1st generation that came with nothing and built up the community. I'm fed up with this "younger generation" that knows little but thinks they know all. Unlike you that says "thank goodness", I say, "fear for the future and the losses this all is going to generate". Sell St. Peters and you have nothing left.

So exciting... O. Reg. 30/11: GENERAL REGULATION under the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002, S.O. 2002, c. 33:

150. (1) A cemetery operator may make by-laws governing the operation of the cemetery and, in particular, governing rights, entitlements and restrictions with respect to interment and scattering rights.

Printed it out today. Thanks for finding it. And YES, WE DID CALL THE CHURCH OFFICE LAST THURSDAY AND SPOKE TO SECRETARY WHO MENTIONED THAT IT WAS ABOUT NEW BURIAL REGULATIONS!

Time to stop living in the past. Previous generations contributed so we could improve and grow! Not continue to live in perpetual hardship and melancholy. Baffled by those who panic at any sign of change that takes things in a new direction.
Alfons30 Jun 2021 12:09
Let us do some research. React appropriately. One fact to bring up is this. Peetri Kirik is not in North York. In the City of Toronto. So why the North York Mirror? And insofar as analyzing any regulations etc that Juust brought up - it is the law!

In other words, Estonian Church in Estonia, has got a purpose to sell this property & this seemed to be the issue right away. A controversial sale of the parsonage by Board Member (at the time) Anne Leius without members knowledge until deed was done came in quick order. Subsequent messes with our Service Order, the unusual issues for old Reverend Taul re his housing, his wish for a last Christmas eve service forbidden before he died and finally a take-over totally. It was feared years ago, when members stopped coming for the services as service songs were unfamiliar & sermons were weird, the writing came on the wall when St. Peter's Estonian Church's ENGLSIH SECTOR was dismantled and their funds confiscated. Where does the newly confirmed youth go nowadays, I have no idea. This is a little bit of history of the past 8 years. So, today's young people, what do you think of the above? I was secretary at St. Peter's, former Sunday School teacher and long-standing member of Archives Group and Ladies Guild.

Now our Faith, Peetri Kirik is in question.
