That's nice, but if you intend to start legal action, better do it before the sale closes Sept 1st.
Innuendo from Meiusi, again!16 Aug 2020 15:36
We'd take you a little more seriously, Allan, if you could be more specific when making your alllegations.
Let's begin with the notion of "many shareholders". That's three, perhaps more.
You might also attach a name to alleged suspicious deeds.
question16 Aug 2020 16:28
Did the bank shareholders ever get to vote upon how ETCU should represent its Eesti Maja shares for the IEC project?

Yet again, Allan Meiusi sniffs the wind and detects a possibility of malfeasance, then hints that the malfeasance is probable.
With no hard facts to work with,he employs a style that's stultifying in ambiguity and stupifying in intent to hide the wide gap between possible and probable.
Malfeasance is always possible where people occupy positions with responsibility. Fortunately, we know the volunteers serving on the Boards of Eesti Maja, the Credit Union, Eesti Abistamis Kommitee & etc. They're selfless, ethically upright and, sometimes, the undeserving victims of character assassination.
I wish Allan Meiusi would volunteer for one of these positions to get some detailed, first-hand experience of their largely thankless and laborious duties.
Allan Meiusi's "investigative journalism" is actually muck-raking! Gratuitously, it casts a mephitic cloud over our community as a whole.

This commenter protests too much, ironically emulating the style of convicted fraudster Conrad Black, who aspired to Br. nobility but got expelled already early in life from UCC for selling exam papers. The issue, my dear boy, is not character assassination. Upton Sinclair, to cite an example, was a U.S. Pulitzer Prize-winning classic “muck-raker”. His published research and novel featuring a Lithuanian immigrant brought public lobbying for the Meat Inspection and Pure Food and Drug Acts. As an investigative journalist, Sinclair systematically critiqued the use of yellow, or tabloid, journalism. Not magniloquently he called this his most important and most dangerous work. The first code of ethics for journalists was created 4 years after its publication. These things do not fall from the sky.

How so? Democratic rights are often regarded as if they fell from the sky.

Upton Sinclair, to cite an example of a classic "muck-raker" journalist, was a U.S. Pulitzer Prize-winning writer in several genres. His published research and novel featuring a Lithuanian immigrant, his teenaged wife and their extended family, and his work in a meat factory in Chicago, brought public lobbying for the Meat Inspection and Pure Food and Drug Acts. As an investigative journalist, Sinclair also systematically critiqued the use of yellow or tabloid journalism in the press. The first code of ethics for journalists was created 4 years after the publication of his study. It too did not fall from the sky.

There is a need for greater awareness and understanding of the past and current struggles that are essential for the democratic rights we may take for granted. We need to get involved.

Upton Sinclair = Allan Meiusi?26 Aug 2020 10:18
That's a stretch!
Sinclair documented unacceptable practices. Meiusi trades in vague hints and innuendo.
There's a difference!

The ETCU has depositors.
Eesti Maja has shareholders.
There's world of difference between the two.

Re the ETCU - now Northern Birch, "... we are all about our members. As a co-operative financial institution, our members are our owners; we answer to you and always put your needs first. We invest back into our members and our communities."
https://www.northernbirchcu.co...

Did ETCU put its members needs first?
How did they know what those needs were ?
How many ETCU members will leave Northern Birch because their needs were an EM, not a car inaccessible and unsafe for children IEC neighborhood?

"In 2019, ECU has 4,700 members."

You obviously don't bank at ECU as otherwise you would know that you have shares in a credit union, like Northern Birch/ECU when you open an account, shares that you pay for and get back when you close the account.
ECU shareholders' rights...18 Aug 2020 12:04
...are not unlimited!
Even where wolves outnumber sheep, the lunch menu doesn't appear on the ballot.
Similarly, in a co-op like the ECU, 4,700 shareholders don't get to vote on loan applications; specifically, whether or not Eesti Maja shares can be used as collateral for a new Estonian Centre by Tartu College.

bank inaccessible argument20 Aug 2020 05:23
The argument that ‘I’m going to pull all my money’s from the credit union’ because it will be downtown and car inaccessible are now moot with the merger with the Latvian credit union. You now have the option of going to the Latvian house branch or Hamilton Branch for your banking.
Karl Otsa20 Aug 2020 09:04
Curbside parking in Hamilton

For those frugal drivers, there is plenty of FREE PARKING at the Latvian Centre !!

Until they shut down the Läti maja. They are bankrupt.

Until then... won't there be a Cross Town LRT stop at Sloane/Bermondsey
