The Anglican Church envoy, Terry Waite, was himself kidnapped in 1987, while on a negotiating mission to free other kidnap victims. He was held for five years; four of them, in solitary. He suffered beatings and a mock execution.
Over a ten year period, 1982-1992, 96 foreigners were kidnapped in Lebanon and held for years. Of them, 8 were either murdered or died of neglect.
This story is unlikely to have a happy ending.
