Estonians are such fashists!
Look in the mirror.10 Nov 2009 11:46
It was great to hear that Bob Rae is championing a resolution to make August 23rd a national day of remembrance for the victims of totalitarian communism and nazism. Millions suffered at the hands of the nazis and Russian Soviets.
It was also nice to hear most speakers say that we need to combat the revisionist propaganda coming out of the Kremlin and from their proxies here in Canada.

YOU should go back to school and learn how to spell, among other things!
to "observer"10 Nov 2009 14:13
Is that you Maxim?

Sure smells like you with the poor spelling and the wish to get a rise out of our community.
Musing10 Nov 2009 15:09
yeah, it was interesting to hear Mr. Rae musing on historical co-incidences. What he didn't think to bring up was another huge blow to leftist pretensions that also occurred in October, exactly one year after the fall of the Berlin Wall - the election of an NDP government for the Province of Ontario.

So-called "Democratic Socialism" has never recovered from that debacle.
I would too.10 Nov 2009 17:01
I think Rae would rather forget about that anniversary! After a decade in exile, he's clearly come out on the right side.

Disgusting! Radical leftist neo-commie Bob Rae at this event??? Too bad I wasn't there to boo him.
Jack11 Nov 2009 14:19
Layton was there too!
Russkies11 Nov 2009 18:01
Looks like the FSB is active on these pages too!
That's exactly how an RT headline about the event would read. I guess all Estonian's are fascists as well?

The only one who can never be called a fascist is Maxim.
Silvi12 Nov 2009 20:49
And Gee... I thought this was a nice story where the Esto school kids could see their picture and feel like they were a part of something special! Thanks all for showing the dirty underside of Esto society!
VE - that's right!12 Nov 2009 21:12
I'm not sure that this is the work of Estonians. Why would an Estonian seek to undermine such a significant piece of legislation that would directly affect them, their families who suffered under communism and how our history is presented to the rest of the world, combating the Kremlin's current line? That's exactly what Putin would want. Why would an Estonian do that?

I was simply expressing my disgust at the fact that a former leader of a pro-communist fringe party would be allowed anywhere near such an event. I am not too young to remember the days when the NDP and Liberal parties thought the communists were a good "progressive" movement and only the Conservatives supported us and hoped to get our votes.

To Dim Peter.13 Nov 2009 10:37
Peter: that's fine. Perhaps you haven't noticed that times have changed. The current Kremlin assault on our history and status as victims is both vicious and serious. We need everyone on board to help fight against this.
If you still feel the need to carry on, I would strongly encourage you to contact the Russian Embassy: . I'm sure that their political section would be happy to include you on their payroll.

Everyone on board? for what? - a nice insincere pity party? Not for me, no thank you. This was a "kissing babies and flipping flapjacks" type of event, kind of fun to see...

Peter overstates things, but do you really think that Bob Layton gives a damn about us or our historical causes? Canadian politicians care about those issues that will determine the result of the next election or in the longer term / wider perspective might help line their pockets once they retire from public life (vide - Mike Harris pimping Magna to Vlad Putin -- maybe you should just get Peter a job at Magna International)

Apart from the acquisition and maintenance of personal power, do our politicians possess any principles? They will do and say whatever it is that will get them enough votes to win and that's all you need to know about their participation in events such as these.

I'm equally cynical. I get it. I appreciate it. However, Rae is half Lithuanian and his wife is full Lithuanian. That probably plays into this.
My cynical side says: let's take whatever we can get and if he believes in it - even better. I just don't see any point in trying to scuttle something that really could having a lasting and meaningful effect on how we approach our history. Kicking those in the nuts that actually do pick up the flag and run with it is just ignorant. That should be left for those who do nothing and those who would rather see Putinism succeed along with their myopic partisan views.

Rae lists his background as part Scottish and part Jewish although he practices the Anglican religion. Rae's wife is not Lithuanian, she is Jewish.

You are playing a dangerous game by supporting those who would revive the evil and satanic ideology of communism. Populists such as Chavez, Morales and Obama have embraced leftism along with racism and religious hatred to bring back many communist ideas. Castro remains in power and even neo-stalinist Ortega is back in charge of Nicaragua.
Do not forget just how extreme and destructive Bob Rae's government was when he ran Ontario. He is no friend of our community and should not be made welcome at any of our events.
