The sporadically held event on "The Hill" was hardly non-partisan. The tiny group of politicians who did attend is testament to an epidemic gross political incompetence of monumental proportions. The event was allowed to become an undignified election rally for certain members of the current government with most MPs leaving even before the President spoke. It’ll take some time before the stench from the burnt bridges clears out of the community.

It should be noted and never forgotten that Ilves' political interests were and are very much tied to the socialist line of thinking. Whoever thinks he has a Republican bent is naive to the hilt!!

With all due respect Maxim, this has nothing to do with Ilves' political views. It's about our political influence (or glaring lack thereof) here in Canada that I'm commenting in. By kowtowing to those who do nothing to support “our” cause we remain perpetually impotent to advocating our issues.

Anonymous, you've never had a cause! Everyone reading these comments knows only too well that people are tired of your armchair criticisms, because you are not willing to play an active role in our community. The Canadian bunch can do all the groundwork they want, but they'll never be able to push their barrel close enough to the fire because the European Socialist cause (read European Union) wants nothing to do with baldheaded capitalism. It's seen shock therapy and said good riddence to it all. The European Socialist club wants to use money and power for other outcomes, of which you'll soon see plenty more if you're willing to hang around to watch the upcoming fireworks.
