Americans are committed to protecting our country's air, water, and land. From restoring ecosystems in the Chesapeake Bay and the Everglades, to reducing the impacts of mountaintop mining, we are bringing together the public and private sectors and civic society to tackle our biggest environmental challenges. But, as we saw firsthand during the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill from earlier this year, all of us need to draw on the expertise and resources of other nations to protect our common environment.

Our Embassy here in Tallinn brought U.S. Coast Guard Environmental Specialist Heather Parker to Estonia this week to discuss oil spill cleanup and mitigation procedures. With direct experience assisting with the recent oil spill cleanup in the United States, Ms. Parker will serve as keynote speaker at the 2nd International EnSaCo Seminar: Ecological Prioritizing in Oil Spill Response and Oiled Wildlife Response. Following her visit here, the Estonian Fund for Nature, with assistance from this Embassy, will carry out several follow-on activities with other speakers and events to share knowledge in Estonia on these vitally important issues.
