This evening U.S. Ambassador to Estonia Michael C. Polt will host a reception in honor of Estonia's teachers, education administrators, and youth workers. Tonight's reception is an expression of the gratitude we all feel towards those who work to educate and mentor our next generations.

It has long been said that teaching is an avocation not just a vocation. Teachers dedicate their expertise and passion to the benefit of the general public through instructing every nation's most valuable asset, their young, and through preparing the next generation of the world's leaders. Strong dedication to providing our children with a solid educational foundation while supporting our nations' teachers in their professional efforts is shared by both of our nations.

First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama well-captured the pivotal role that teachers play in society when she stated, "...good teachers aren't just critical for the success of our students. They are the key to the success of our economy."
