Subway, a well-known American multi-national fast food restaurant franchise that primarily sells submarine sandwiches, wraps, salads and drinks is closing down its Estonian locations. Subway has been operating in Estonia for almost ten years.

Ats Raigla, CEO of Subtastic OÜ, which manages Estonian Subway restaurants, said that Subway has generally done well in the context of the Estonian market. "In recent years, we have been growing nicely in terms of turnover and efficiency indicators. We are a respectable player in our segment among caterers in terms of the number of locations and market share," he said to the Ärileht.

Raigla did not provide any real reasons for the closing, "the franchisor, whose interest should be to ensure the most effective and viable business model for local partners, has, on the contrary, begun to limit and prevent the achievement of their goals," he explained.

The restaurants will likely be closed by the end of November.
