Catalonia's pro-independence movement continued to publicize the situation of its jailed and exiled leaders with a protest on Tuesday in Brussels recreating two prison cells outside the European Commission and the European Council.

The Catalan National Assembly (ANC), Òmnium Cultural and the Committees for the Defense of the Republic (CDR) pro-independence pressure groups, together organized the protest that goes under the title, 'Un poble empresonat' (A people imprisoned).

The recreated prison cells outside the EU institutions are the same ones that were first displayed in the Catalan town of Vic, last November. The protest then went on display in another 17 municipalities in Catalonia in the following months.

"With this action we want international public opinion, specifically in Europe, to know that the Spanish state is trying to turn a right, that of self-determination, into a crime," said ANC president, Elisenda Paluzie.
