President Toomas Hendrik Ilves met with the members of the Bank of Estonia Supervisory Board today. The topics under discussion included the status of the country’s financial and economic polices, and the steps necessary for Estonia to join the common EU currency.

The members of the central bank’s supervisory board explained their view of the situation in Estonia and the region to the Head of State.

President Ilves feels that the Bank of Estonia could increase its public role as the appraiser of Estonia’s economic condition and to participate more actively in the discussions related to the steps necessary for transition to the euro.
