"Today there is reason to think of all of us, thanks to the wishes and actions of which Estonia took back its independence," President Karis posted in social media on Saturday, along with photos from a small ceremony held at the August 20, 1991 memorial stone on Toompea Hill."
"It was a courageous of the whole nation, finally a time of rare unanimity, when the wishes of the Supreme Council and the Estonian Committee became one on August 20, 1991 at 23:03 in Toompea in the decision on the national independence of Estonia. At the same time, the bravest of us stepped in front of the armoured personnel carriers from Pskov, protecting Toompea, the TV and radio house, and the TV tower."
Prime Minister Kaja Kallas also posted on social media, marking the day of restoration of independence 31 years ago.
