oh really??11 Sep 2022 14:32
sounds sorta like when Estonians move to Toronto and try to fit in.
A moment of honesty14 Sep 2022 19:24
Exactly, but Estonians from outside Toronto, from anywhere else in Canada or the U.S..

This is quite a humourous piece, something that seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

The Russians in Estonia are cold and distant among strangers; Estonans too, to a lesser degree.
Once you connect with them, however, they are as friendly as anyone else.
The problem might be with you Aure.
It might be wise to get out of Tallinn. It has too many big-city attributes.

"oh, really" is absolutely right in his comment, when Estonians move to Toronto they have their childhood traumas with them & generally move "like boots on the ground" & try to take over. I lived & worked there for 3 years, saw it all & fled back to Canada.

Mikk Mikiveer mainis kunagi peale Austraalia Estot.
Eesti laulev rahvas on kui kòlav vasest aisakell. ainult mòra on sees.

Hey Aure, heres an idea…grow a backbone! Quit expecting to lay everything at your feet. Your article reeks of someone who has been challenged very little in life. Id say this experience did you a world of good, despite your petulent whining.

Aure's comment on his own article:

Reading this article, again, I realize I complained like a bitch about a country that kindly welcomed me, so I need to provide some explanations.
No country is perfect. Yet if I had to rate Estonia, it would be in the top 5 of best countries in the world.
1. It's the most advanced digital nation in the world.
2. People are smart, hardworking, and ambitious.
3. It has low taxes AND manages its finances well.
The way I feel is in no way the fault of Estonia, but mine, 100%. I made the conscious choice to move there and knew what I was getting into.
I wrote the article on a tough day, and did what I always do when that happens: I wrote. Except that this time, I hit publish. Maybe I should not have.
Estonia is a great country, so if you want to move there, you definitely should. Just know that people don't behave like they do in warmer countries, and that the lack of sunlight in winter can be draining.
That's it. Thank you to Estonia for enabling me to come here and do the things I want to do. I don't know where I would be if the Estonians had not built such a great country!
What a cop-out, what a pity18 Sep 2022 20:53
This article was well-written. It expressed authentically and not without a lived experience. That is valuable. For their pushback, add Estonians are bullies. What do you call people that can't be criticized and are always thinking they're the best and better than anyone else? How do you handle such people?

The original can be expanded on, nuanced. Why erase?
