Kui Churchill ja Stalin hakkasid aastal 1944 Euroopat mõjusfäärideks jagama, siis Jugoslaavia jäi rohkem Inglise mõjusfääri, samuti ka Kreeka, kuigi võimule olid tulemas kommunistid. Vastavalt kokkuleppele mõjusfääride kohta loobus Stalin Kreeka kommunistide toetamisest.
