If the sale of 958 broadview is dependant on a large chunk of the money to invest into the new centre, why don't the people who want this new centre, open up their pocket books and donate to it, if you are the ones really wanting it, then pay for it too !! As for the article that I read yesterday about the latvian and estonian credit unions possibly merging - is this for the benefit of having them help out with the monies to pay for the new centre - what is going on ?? I'm glad I pulled my monies out of the ETCU last year, I could see trouble brewing. As for replacing 958 broadview with an 18 story seniors bldg. - what are they thinking? Having elderly / disabled seniors wandering a busy street like broadview, possibly getting hit/killed or even wandering off and getting lost. The bldg. opposite the Sobeys that was built on the hillside to this day has structural/stability issues and the same is probably going to happen if they start disturbing the grounds at 958 broadview - OK so the parking was / is / and forever will be a problem but at least the bldg. is still stable and serving a purpose. Come on people, think with your minds, not with your wallets !!!
What?30 May 2019 08:38
Wait a minute?!?!
We've been told by the Estonian Centre that the Esto House has been sold, but now it seems this is not the case. It's still conditional on Revera getting it's needed rezoning. In other words, they can still walk away from the deal!
Things sure aren't as clear cut as the Maddion Project would have us believe!
Conditional sale30 May 2019 13:26
The fact that the esto house was sold conditionally based on Revera getting appropriate re-zoning has never been a secret and has been announced since the beginning and also discussed at every meeting I have been to.

No need for outrage here.

Well, the conditional sale may not be a secret, but it has been continually underlined that the discussions about the future of the Esto House are a waste of time, since it has been sold.
Check out the statement from an interview with a Madison board member:
"Most community members are aware that the property has been sold to Revera, a leading developer of retirement residences. We are delighted that they stepped forward with an interest to purchase the property. Rezoning the property is currently underway so that they will be able to build to their specifications, and the final price for the Estonian House is dependent on the zoning acquired."
Sure sounds final. No mention that Revera can abandon the offer and walk away.
Where would we be then? What's plan B?

Oh you silly people...30 May 2019 09:22
Listening to people complain about Revera, the Esto Centre, the credit unions, board members, the earth being round or whatever else they find a need to complain about really does end up being entertaining. But all that aside, do us all a favour and grow up.

Silly people . . . (not you) who be-lieeeve Estonians are held to a higher standard.
TRAGEDY has touched EACH and EVERYONE of us
and now all this BS in Toronto

Silly people . . . who be-lieeeved they could be intimately part of the process of determining our future in Canada, basecamp Toronto, contributing whatever talents they had accrued in the beautiful Freedom of a vast country, CANADA.

Silly people . . . who are passionate to honour the hard work and love of their parents AND the Community of Toronto Estonians who gave everything to cushion the awful truths of Estonia's history during our development into adulthood

Silly people . . . who have questions about feasibility of EVERYTHING about The Madison Project, the rumble of railways tracks beneath our feet . . . God Almighty himself knows how tenuous the existence of a tribe numbering about a million souls, let’s not add MORE metaphors eh?

Silly people . . . who are “entertaining” you with bona fide credentials of their professions, asking pointed questions only to be mocked AND CENSORED. Is this 1941?

How does that Eesti vanasõna go again . . . give me a minit, oh yeah:
“Omad%@!#$&pekksavad” . . . isn’t that a beaut!

I believe the person who wrote the article meant to say Broadview Ave. Study, not Broadway.
Questions, questions01 Jun 2019 15:58
It was interesting to see Stop Revera signs. They are a giant corporation and this will be a long fight. However, Revera does have a few problems, like this lawsuit, and probably more coming. They don’t care about people or suffering, it’s all about money! https://www.google.ca/amp/s/ww...
