"Valimistoimkond töötab põhikirja alusel ja põhikirjas on öeldud:
Valitakse valimisteks kinnitatud kandidaatide arv miinus viis kandidaati."

That means that, from the approved candidate list, we vote for the number of candidates minus five.

So, by your own admission, we should have been voting for 37 candidates, not 25.

It's unfortunate that it is becoming more and more difficult to run organisations in Estonian, as our language skills are rapidly diminishing.

It's sadly true that language skills are rapidly tapering off. That could be reversed, if we spent an hour a week reading the Estonian part of the community newspaper. Alas, only a few see any importance in this.
There are some fresh new faces in the EKN who ran on a vague platform of dissatisfaction with the incumbants and the need for more communication. I wish them well. At the same time, I wonder, communication for what?
Since re-independence, Estonia has done just fine without us. She doesn't need any help from people with Estonian roots who visit the country, only during the song festival, to drink beer with their friends from Canada.
EKN would do well to focus on what's possible: preserving our (fast disappearing) language and endangered local institutions (Ehatare and Eesti Maja).

... I should have added -- saving our endangered Estonian paper, Eesti Elu.
To Evi and all of the newly elected at the EKN I must say: Please buy a subscription to the paper version of Eesti Elu!

"She doesn't need help ..."
What are you talking about?
Silvi20 Jan 2016 20:01
I congratulate all of the elected members and all of those who put their names in the ring and are willing to help for the good of our communities!
We need help!
We need strong leadership and a clear vision!
Our community (at least here in Toronto) is losing interest / getting lazy / complacent ...
So many are willing to let that happen.
Even among the candidates, I counted a couple, who I consider troublemakers. There were a couple or even a few who I, being around the community quite actively for my entire life, question... what have they ever done and why the sudden interest. (and that goes only for those born and raised here, who have never done anything in the community)
I'm very happy that there are representatives of various ages and VERY happy that there are representatives who were not raised in our communities. I hope they can bring ideas to the table, that will help our communities to remain relevant!
There needs to be more consultation.
We need to build and repair bridges.
We need to bring back the lost sheep and we need to make our communities vibrant and exciting enough for the young people who have come lately from Estonia to WANT to join us.
Throughout my life, our (mine and my peers') raison d'etre was to preserve our culture and language and fight for the freedom of our ancestral homeland.
Our homeland is free!
Now we need to fight for our culture and language.

No more nonsense!25 Jan 2016 05:49
If past years are any indicator, there's very little hope. EKN did absolutely nothing except participate in junkets to Eesti the past four years where nothing was accomplished (at least they were never communicated).
These bungled elections caused further damage to community confidence in EKN.
The new EKN will be stuck with rebuilding community confidence and restoring EKN's currently non-existent presence in the community for the foreseeable future. Hopefully the new group will shed the embarrassment of past years and become a much more more active, accountable and inclusive group that helps bring the community together rather than passively watch it drift it apart.
The absence of any EKN accomplishments can be measured by watching this video of the outgoing esimees from 2011 by Vaado Sarapuu.

õnn ei ole alati valija teha21 Jan 2016 07:33
Õnn ei saa olla mitte kunagi täielik ja täiuslik, kui üks osa uus -vana EKN -i valituist püüab teha seaduslikke "krutskeid" ning püüab õnnekarikast rohkem nektarit juua.. Nii lihtne see ongi.

You may wish to vilify "new candidates" because you fear improvement and change however, there were a number of very thoughtful pieces published on Eesti Elu by new candidates with new ideas!
You should embrace new ideas and new people and not attack them. Such negativity is unproductive to the community and continues to reinforce negative public perceptions in this important organization.
Proposing change only means "troublemaking" to those who have reason to fear change or have something to hide.
