This is completely random. Someone needs to be fired or replaced at EE. Who on earth would commission this sort of rubbish: nothing to do with Estonians! The talking parrot guy's ego has clearly gone haywire.
koostöö22 Apr 2010 19:19
This is not random. Latvians and Lithuanians have been through thick and thin with the Estonians. I don't mind coverage of such an event, especially since they advertised in the Estonian community, probably because Estonians partake in their brunches at the Latvian House.

Let's try to be more positive and work together. Instead of being overly critical, why not offer your help with the website news if you think it is lacking? Let's prove the Estonian saying "One Estonian is another Estonian's meal" wrong (apologies, poor translation). There are so few of us here and we need to work together, not against each other.

Our community is like one big family, we are not all perfect, but we are doing our best.

Your destructive comments have the effect of a bull in a china shop. You can probably achieve more by lending a hand with the newspaper. Choosing honey over vinegar.

By the way, people in the community can figure out who are making the comments...

Always easier to sit on the sidelines and complain than be constructive.
Why is it that the Estonians eat their young?
Reality23 Apr 2010 07:43
This isn't the Baltic Times. Instead of posting willy nilly pieces about Costa Rican home videos and random Latvian community events, perhaps those who run this site and paper and get funded by the community should be offering proper coverage of community events instead of those that are completely outside the scope and mandate of this community establishment. They need to work on getting back to doing that properly and well before shooting out on tangents.
If Latvians and Liths want to help fund the newspaper or this website - then fine.

Reality or Censorship23 Apr 2010 09:58
It appears that you want to control and censor all the news that you deem is fit for the local Estonian community.
No thanks, I'll take a pass on your very narrow perspective!
A Little Common Sense23 Apr 2010 10:48
Talk about swinging to extremes! I see no suggestions regarding censorship just a suggesiton that there could be some editorial guidelines and a bit of focus for a publication that's called "ESTONIAN Life." In a word, it's called professionalism.

Offer your smart, original, thought-out perspective. You must be aware that EE wages are McD equivalent.... You have the facts, you can protest. Oakville and Richmond Hill are nice places to live, but lacking a paycheck that has weight, where does a good esto go?

I for one am very happy to read of our Baltic brothers and sisters' s celebrations. I find it very relevant! We are all in this together.
Keep up the good work Eesti Elu!
Happy reader of "Eesti Elu"26 Apr 2010 08:51
If this website irritates you, don't read it! Read some other papers which are available online.
Perhaps you could set up your own high quality site, or failing that, offer some of your own high standard of writing to "Eesti Elu".
I, (and apparently thousands of others internationally) am happy to vicariously visit Costa Rica, Latvian events and find out all sorts of interesting information about Estonia and Estonians.
Maintaining this site is a LOT of ongoing work. Ai-täh tegijatele!!!

It seems that some people regularly miss their afternoon naps and are in a bad mood most of the time. Community money is NOT being spent on covering the ongoing costs of producing an internet Estonian Life. The web site's editor has to bear the brunt of costs himself - travel, equipment, etc. His salary is minimal. He does an incredible job of keeping up with what's happening in the immediate community and sometimes in our neighbouring communities, knowing that sometimes we like to be informed of what the Latvians and Lithuanians are up to. Why do some people persist in being a-- h---s? Why don't they take their nasty pills and gripe somewhere else..
Which is it?27 Apr 2010 13:19
Gloria - you say the editor doesn't get paid and then you go on to say he gets a salary. Which one is it? If there's a salary, it must be coming from people in the community - where else would it be coming from?
