Maxim.16 May 2008 06:18
Bravo to EE for promoting this absolutely brilliant online magazine. Enjoyable reading folks!
astounding!16 May 2008 08:15
The semi-literate Maxim passes us his judgment of a literary magazine. Surely, this must be arrogance of demented proportions.
C'mon16 May 2008 09:08
Read elm, don't use your craven anonymity to attack Maxim. This attack stuff in EE is getting tiresome. The point of the posting was to get people to read quality material, was it not
Anonymous16 May 2008 12:28
This attack stuff is worse than tiresome -- it's downright embarrassing. But let's call a spade a spade -- Maxim is a provacateur and instigator. He likes to get us riled up and he knows exactly what buttons to push. Look elsewhere in this issue and you'll see that he hints at the immorality of Estonian women. Also, he suggests that Russia has a glorious history and hints that Estonians are insignificant. This is typical stuff from Maxim and its completely uncalled for. You should also notice that most of the time Maxim's comments have nothing to do with the article that they follow. They are simply unprovoked attacks.
You -- C'mon -- seem to be saying that no one should respond to Maxim. Do you really think that that will make him stop hazing us? Get real.
Like yourself, I would like to see an end to it. Maybe you should talk to Maxim. Toomas Merilo knows who he is. Maybe he can give you his e-mail address.
to C'mon16 May 2008 14:59
If anonymity is craven then you too should be ashamed to hide behind it.
Maxim.16 May 2008 15:29
Nice one-so I'm full of vitriolic hate, and your the opposite. Pardon me, but read your posting again; this time very slowly and with feeling. I think you'´ll find that you have done nothing short of shooting yourself in the foot. It's you that's aggravating the situation, not me. I've given a perfectly clear thumbs up for the latest copy of ELM and you've done everyhing possible to mangle the commentary section and make it look as though it's all my fault. I think you should take action against yourself!
Hey Merilo17 May 2008 21:51
Anonymous16 May 2008 15:11
The only solution to the Maxim problem is to get rid of the readers' commentary option. Who needs it? It's become a platform for a wierdo who wants to harass us.
Aa..chuuuhh!17 May 2008 05:22
I see Maxim's presence here as a solution to the general problem pervading many of the comments here. Why? because of his positive forthrightness in praising rather than tearing down.
Anonymous17 May 2008 07:10
Where and when has Maxim been positive and forthright? This sounds like something that Maxim would say about himself, and probably did.
slowly with feeling...16 May 2008 17:16
...I took action against myself.
Maxim.17 May 2008 05:19
I think this is the most disgusting posting in this contribution, and as usual it comes from one of my critics. Let readers decide for themselves if my critic has gone too far. It's a pity that these sort of people bring an oblique form of discredit to Anonymous, who it seems would rather side with them than with me, judging by the tone of her comments.
Anonymous17 May 2008 07:15
Pardon me.
Maxim is positive and forthright in his first comment here. But that is a rare exception. More typical are the insulting innuendos found elsewhere in this very issue of EE.
anonymous too17 May 2008 10:26
Watching Maxim say something ugly and stupid, catch flak and, then, act surprised as if he didn't know it was coming and that he doesn't deserve it, has become a boring, repetitive act.
I'd like to see it come to an end. Failing that, I'd like to read a letter of support for Maxim that he didn't compose himself.

State your intentions Maxim. Are you going to drag this on forever? What could make you stop gnawing on us?
Anonymous17 May 2008 11:27
Down deep inside, Maxim is an idealist who thinks that we should live up to his concept of the model Estonian.
We haven't followed him back to Estonia and that makes him as mad as a wet hen.
We can only speak enough Estonian to chat with our parents. That makes us hypocrites.
In a way, he is right. Especially on Vabariigi aastapäev when we hear speeches that all concerned know are a load of bull with a noble ring to it.
Laas Leivat once said, "Mina möištan meie miššooni". (I hope that he wasn't dead serious.)
In any case, we are only human and indisputably entitled to be what we are. We certainly don't deserve to go about our lives with Maxim's fangs sunk into our backsides.
Anonymous17 May 2008 12:27
You overlooked the fact that Maxim can't speak Estonian, English or anything else.
Maxim.17 May 2008 15:05
I stand by my first statement that ELM is worth reading, and I don't see any reason why my critics should undermine my efforts in promoting a worthy magazine. Better luck next time.
Stand by it, Maxim!17 May 2008 16:01
For the record: no one doubts that ELM is worth reading. We only doubt that you can read.
We remember how you touted Veispak as a "brilliant theorist of history" and were surprised, later, by what it was that he wrote. That made you look like a fraud.
Maxim.18 May 2008 06:11
For the record, I was not surprised by what Veispak wrote, and furthermore, it is you that is the fool for falling foul of flinging fistfuls of frikadels at friendly foes.
the advantage of insanity18 May 2008 09:58
Maxim can contradict himself and believe that he is logical.
The best example of this occurred when he was identified. Initially he admitted it and, moments later, denied it. No inconsistency there, in his mind.
Maxim.18 May 2008 10:36
The lies and fabrications that my critics come up with is endless, yet you ask one simple question-where's the proof of what you state, and it's as good as blowin' in the wind.
Anonymous18 May 2008 13:52
Readers have gone to the archives and dug up statements that make Maxim look stupid and unbalanced. He knows how to handle that. He mulishly denies their patent meaning.
That's one of the advantages of insanity. It lets him say anything that he wants, and he does.
Maxim.18 May 2008 14:48
Which readers when, where, who?? Facts please..not the usual dithering that is typical of you. Give me the exact date of the things of which I'm guilty. Of course you can't do that, because they don't exist, and if they did, you would have cut and pasted them somewhere convenient as reference, but it's impossible to convict anyone without the necessary proof, so you use all other manner of smear campaign. Anonymous, everyone can see through your bs!!
tt18 May 2008 14:51
I'm beginning to think it's you that's really gone bonkers. After all, what drives a women almost to the bitter end of her sanity-except love, and it now seems we can't leave that possibility out of this equation.
Anonymous19 May 2008 03:11
Maxim. When you have been confronted with some of the stupid things that you have said, you go into your chimpanzee act and say, "Better luck next time" ..... Like it was already stated, "insanity has its advantages".
Maxim.19 May 2008 06:18
Its a rare occasion where you ever have something nice to say, Anonymous. This time proves to be no exception. Get a checkup and try some positive thinking for a change. it might do you the world of good for once.
At last!18 May 2008 16:35
Finally, we are seeing something interesting here -- the idea of a wedding between Maximahv, a.k.a. Erik (a male of indeterminate species) and Anonymous (a being of indeterminate in number and gender).
So how should it be announced? Maximahv & Anonymi? Is that the plural of Anonymous?
Anonymous19 May 2008 07:52
Maxim comes to EE with the sole purpose of denigrating väliseestlased. To the predictable readers' reaction, he responds with denial, demand for proof and, now, an invitation to think positively.
.... and he thinks that he is sane.
Maxim.19 May 2008 08:21
Stop with the bs Anonymous. I don't come here to aggravate anyone. It's you that has done most of the aggravating between ourselves. Your the only one that's responding to my messages, which makes me and others think that you "must be lonesome tonight". Find someone for yourself (preferably not a German, but that probably goes without saying) and see what life can offer you apart from the joys of conversing with me.
Anonymous19 May 2008 10:18
Looks like Maxim doesn't know that "Anonymous" is a default label. Poor fellow.
not Anonymous19 May 2008 10:55
Compiling a list of outrageous and wounding comments made by Maxim over the span of years would be the labour of Siyphus: i.e., he will not stop barking at us.
.19 May 2008 12:48
Actually, it would be the labour of Sisyphus (not Siyphus) who was condemned to a fate of rolling a boulder up a hill only to have it roll down again.
With each entry into Maxim's catalog insults and outrages, he would be right there denying, denying, denying and then saying "better luck next time!" or something similar.
I saw that this guy is imperious to fact and reason years ago when he said that we have forfeited our right to return to Estonia. He put up a tenacious battle on that one even though he didn't know what the word "forfeit" means.
Obviously we are dealing with a head-case here. In spite of the evidence he truly believes that he has one critic and an army of fans. He reminds me of a believer in UFO's, except that he carries a maniacal grudge for more than twenty years now so I imagine that he will take it to his grave with him.
The EE editors should exercise their authority here. There is no positive side to it and It's an ugly thing to witness.
parent19 May 2008 13:54
Maxim is like a teenager who acts up, is scolded by parents and teachers and then complains loudly that nobody understands him and that he is treated unfairly.
Tarkuseallikas19 May 2008 14:54
It's interesting to note that there is another side to all this, and that is; most respondents take joy in using Maxim as a doormat for their own pent-up anti-Russian racism, or alternately, it could be that Konze left a legacy of hate behind in Toronto that no-one is willing to forgive or forget. I wonder which of the two is the correct answer.
where's the hate?19 May 2008 16:47
About five years ago, Konze was invited to Eesti Maja to talk about the construction business in Estonia.
There is a video of the event in the EE archives. I saw plenty of fanfare, no hate.
Anonymous19 May 2008 19:50
I never believed that Maxim/Konze was Russian. He can't speak a word of that language and he publicly kissed Russian butt only to get our goat.
Anonymous19 May 2008 19:55
I should have said "kisses Russian butt" rather than "kissed Russian butt".

It's a pity that we have to witness such a sorry spectacle.
Anonymous19 May 2008 21:18
You should know better, tarkuseallikas/Maxim. You aren't a doormat for anything that you didn't put into place yourself. And Estonians are anti-soviet (for good reason), not anti-Russian racists. Use your head for a change.
.20 May 2008 06:09
There is a splendid scene in the film "The Singing Revolution" -- Russian citizens occupy the Estonian Parliament; Savisaar makes a radio-appeal to the Estonian citizenry to come liberate it; which they did in their large numbers with chants and slogans.

My Portuguese friend, witnessing this scene, was simply stunned and said, "had such a thing happened in Portugal, the occupiers heads would have been cracked open, with no exceptions!"

That scene spoke to the basic decency of the Estonian national character and showed the world why Eestlane olla on uhke ja hea.

Sina "tarkuseallikas" oled oma lõpmatu ülbusega lihtsalt maamunalt maha astunud.
A.N.20 May 2008 10:09
I thought that the Maxim/Konze connection was disproven ages ago. Did I miss something?
to A.N.20 May 2008 10:24
Yes, you did.
Frat V bro20 May 2008 12:57
Toronto people over 40 know Maxim/Konze quite well. But for some reason we play along with his silly game. We laugh at freaks. Most of us anyway. You can see that he has bent some of us out of shape.

Maxi -- your name has come up at some meetings.
Aa..chuuuhh!20 May 2008 13:34
There is, of course, the slightest possiblity, that Maxim is having us on at our own expense. After all, he lifts the ratings of this readership quite considerably judging by the comments flowing in from around the country. I think he has done far more good than harm. Most people are still guessing that he is Konze, but some people with whom I have recently spoken are beginning to doubt the likelihood of this possibility.
A.N.20 May 2008 13:53
T.M. knows who Maxim is for sure, but, being a gentleman, he won't say.
Anonymous20 May 2008 21:17
Smart guy. He knows how much a slander and defamation suit might cost.
Anonymous21 May 2008 08:44
More proof that Maxim is insane ... he thinks that he has a respectful following among readers.
In reality, he is like a loud drunk at a party, who simply can't be ignored, and thinks that it's his jokes that people are laughing at.
Salme21 May 2008 12:00
I disagree entirely! Usually after Maxim offers an opinion, there is a barrage of bile that follows, as witnessed in this article. I don't think these postings justify themselves, and I would be happy to leave well enough alone, even if I don't agreed with it. Nowhere have I seen as much hate in the Estonian community as I have against this drawn- out torturous campaign against Maxim. I wish you'd all grow up!!
what's the solution, Salme?21 May 2008 14:22
I'm sick of this spectacle like almost everyone else.
Ignoring Maxim, like Salme/Maxim suggests, only deals with half of the problem. Wouldn't you agree that Maxim bears some of the responsibility for this disgrace?
I think that EE should temporarily get rid of the readers' commentary section in order to let tempers cool. After a cooling off period, EE should print the comments which display some worth, that have been submitted by identified and paid-up subscribers.
I'm anxious to know. What you think of that suggestion, Salme/Maxim?
Anonymous21 May 2008 14:29
It is very, very important that paid-up subscribers participate here. EE will not last long without them. Our old original refuge generation is dying off and they are not being sufficiently replaced by younger people.
I encourage everyone -- especially Maxim -- to support EE with a subscription.
.21 May 2008 15:05
The pathologically conceited Maxim believes that he increases EE's readership with fans flocking here to read his drivel.
Even if it were true -- and that's more than a stretch -- it doesn't help EE which survives with subscribers. So lead by example, Maxim. Take out a subscription!
We need your money. Your wit and your wisdom simply isn't enough.
