Founded in 1921, The University Settlement Music and Arts School is one of North America’s oldest community music schools. Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, the School offers quality lessons to everyone, regardless of age, ethnicity, perceived talent, and ability to pay. Especially welcoming to immigrant communities, the School provides an open house of learning in a welcoming, family atmosphere.

To raise much-needed funds for their programs, The University Settlement Music and Arts School will host a benefit January 26th, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at Toronto’s renowned Music Gallery located in St. George-the-Martyr- Anglican Church, 197 John Street, Toronto. Performing at the benefit will be VOICES RELYEA (Gary Relyea – Bass-Baritone; Anna Tamm-Relyea – soprano; Deanna Relyea – mezzo-soprano).

The focus of this year’s benefit will be to raise funds to provide music lessons and classes to children and teens in the downtown core.
University Settlement Recreation Centre was founded in 1910 by University of Toronto faculty members and volunteers. The first community-based social service agency in the city, its purpose was to provide social assistance to recent immigrants to Toronto. The University Settlement Music and Arts School opened in 1921 as part of the Centre, with only 2 students. Today, about 300 students of all ages, levels and interests learn to sing, play an instrument, act, or even dance (tap, ballet and jazz) from highly qualified teachers.

The School invites all music lovers of any age to its benefit concert featuring VOICES RELYEA on Saturday, January 26th, at 7:30 p.m. at The Music Gallery - St. George the Martyr Church, 197 John St. Tickets are $30.00 for adults, $20.00 for seniors and students.
