Earth Times Vilnius/Tallinn - Newly-appointed permanent president of the European Council Herman van Rompuy continued his tour of EU members Wednesday with visits to Lithuania and Estonia. He had visited the third of the Baltic states, Latvia, last week.
Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said energy issues had been at the top of the agenda when she met with the incoming EU supremo.
"I wish the new President of the EU gives regard to and supports the interests of Lithuania and the whole Baltic region. The most important thing for us is that the new economic conception covers energy independence and energy connections between the Baltic region and Europe," Grybauskaite said.
"Lithuania will continue asking that the EU's financial plans envisage funds for the post-closure maintenance of the Ignalina nuclear power plant," Grybauskaite added.
