It`s something that you should support. In Canada some 8 million people or their descendants fled or were forced to leave Communist regimes for various reasons. A Tribute to Liberty effort will honour the victims and survivors and ensure they have a permanent place in Canada’s consciousness by erecting a memorial in a prominent location near the Parliament in Ottawa. It’ll be unique in Canada for up till now only Nazi victims have been remembered in this very public way.

The Chairman of the Board of Tribute to Liberty, to which the Estonian Central Council in Canada belongs, has contributed $1000 and is challenging 999 others to do the same. With a $1000 donation the donator may place a name of a victim of Communism, a relative, friend or a prominent person from Estonian history on an individual plaque at the memorial. The Central Council donated $3000 and will have Konstatntin Päts, Jaan Tõnisson and Juhan Laidoner memorialized at the monument. The Language chosen can be in Estonian, for instance, Jaan ja Tiiu Sepp. The dealine for donating is January 1, 2015.
