Travel Writer Neil Taylor Receives Estonian State Decoration

Estonian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Aino Lepik presented travel writer Neil Taylor with The Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana V class at the Estonian Embassy in London on Tuesday 13 March. The high Estonian state decoration was bestowed on Neil Taylor on the 23rd of February 2012 by Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves for promoting economic relations between Estonia and the United Kingdom.

When presenting the award, Ambassador Aino Lepik said that Neil Taylor is a model for everyone with his positive attitude, helpfulness and friendliness. “Neil has had an important role in promoting Estonian tourism both as a tour operator and a travel writer. Estonia is happy to have such a friend,” said the ambassador, thanking Taylor for his work in introducing Estonia in the United Kingdom.

Neil Taylor has had a long career in the British travel industry and specialised in travel to Estonia immediately after independence was restored in 1991. He has written the Bradt Guide to Estonia and the Bradt Guide to Tallinn. Taylor writes and broadcasts on travel trade topics and is on the Board of Association of Independent Tour Operators. In 2000 Neil Taylor was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the British Guild of Travel Writers. Since 2002 Taylor has been the Chairman of the British Estonian Association, which brings together a wide range of people living in Britain who are interested in Estonia.
