Flutist Kaili Maimets has been described as “a consummate professional and inspiring musician” by Canadian conductor Alain Trudel. Her performances have taken her across Canada and South America, and her recording projects of new Canadian music include the works of composers Alan Torok and Kevin Lau. Kaili Maimets’compositions have been performed in Toronto’s St. Lawrence Centre and Glenn Gould Studio.
She is also a frequent performer in various musical groupings, a notable one is Duo Flora in partnership with harpist Anglea Schwarzkopf, adding elegance and class to special events. (More information available here:

A concertgoer attending “Rebirth” at the Heliconian Hall last Friday, March 18, featuring among other composers the work of Kaili’s brother Riho Esko Maimets (see our Estonian pages for a review) was delighted to see promotional material included with the evening’s programme, announcing “New Beginnings.”. Kaili Maimets has joined musical forces with pianist Jacqueline C. Leung, already a performing colleague, to form the Oriole Duo, this will be their founding concert.
The Oriole Duo is a professional flute and piano duo committed to helping people make connections between music and themselves. Through concerts, teaching, and community service, The Oriole duo shares their passion for stimulating emotion and promoting well-being in people and communities through the exploration of music.
Kaili Maimets and Jacqueline Leung have Masters degrees in Music Performance from McGill University and have performed throughout different parts of the world in solo, chamber, and orchestral ensembles.
The same intimate concert venue, Heliconian Hall, 35 Hazelton Avenue (near Bay St and Bloor St, easily accessible by TTC) will host New Beginnings on Easter weekend, Saturday April 23rd at 7:30 PM. The duo will present a “vivid program if music and spoken thoughts from J.S. Bach to the 21st century.” Their website notes that the evening includes the hypnotic piece,"Lumena" by Riho Esko Maimets, Eldin Burton's thrilling "Sonatina", the mysterious and beautiful E major sonata BWV 1035 by J.S Bach, George Enesco's "Cantabile et Presto", Olivier Messiaen's birdsong inspired "Le merle noir", Charles-Marie Widor's romantic "Suite op.34", Luciano Berio's "Sequenza" for solo flute, and the dramatic "Fantasy in F minor, op. 49" for solo piano by Frederic Chopin. Program may be subject to changes. A champagne toast and light refreshments will follow.
