Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on the occasion of Thanksgiving:

“Thanksgiving is a time when family and friends gather together to celebrate and appreciate the many blessings we enjoy here in Canada.

“It is a time to reflect on how fortunate we are to live in such a beautiful, prosperous, peaceful and democratic country. It is also a day to remember those who are less fortunate.

“On this special holiday, let us also give thanks to our Canadian Armed Forces and to all citizens who work tirelessly to protect Canadians from harm both at home and abroad. Let us pay special tribute to those safeguarding our well-being, rights and freedoms, and to those who will not be joining their families on this special occasion given their duty to country. We are also grateful for the many volunteers and all those that generously give their time, experience and expertise to strengthen our communities and make a difference every day across Canada.

“On behalf of my family, I wish all Canadians a very healthy, happy, and safe Thanksgiving.”
