Award-winning saxophonist Sadao Watanabe is featured performing during a 1986 concert in Japan.

Sadao Watanabe started studying music in Japan in 1951 when he was eighteen and began playing professionally two years later.

He is particularly well known for a fondness of bossa nova, yet is a well rounded player fluent in many style.

His principle instruments are the alto and soprano saxophone, and flute.

Watanabe left Japan In 1962 and traveled to the U.S. to attend the Berklee College of Music.

In 1995 he revived an honorary doctorate degree from the school for his various musical contributions.
