Russia to conduct observation flights over Lithuania
01 Sep 2011 Adu Raudkivi
The Russian Air Force is starting observation flights over Lithuania and the other 56 nations of the Organization for Security and Co-operation (OSCE) that are of the 34 nations of the Treaty on Open Skies (TOS) of which Estonia, Canada, UK and the US (plus Russia) are members.

The TOS was formed on January 1, 2002 and is managed in Vienna by the Open Skies Consultative Commission.

The Russian aircraft that will conduct the observation flights will be the Antonov An-30B, a twin piston engined craft. Russia may also use a larger Tupolev Tu-154M-ON for observation purposes.

Canada's will be the McDonnell-Douglas CC-130 Hercules with an electronics pod instead of an auxillary fuel container.
