Riho Esko Maimets writes: Upcoming performances
21 Apr 2012 Riho Maimets
Dear friends,

This message is intended to update you about upcoming performances of my music and other developments.

The Estonia Choir, conducted by Ingrid Silm, will be performing Taaveti laul 131 ("Psalm of David 131") on Sunday, April 22 at 2:00 PM (14:00) at St. Peter's Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church in Toronto, located at 817 Mt. Pleasant Ave., just north of Eglinton Ave. E. The concert has an extensive program featuring Estonian sacred music.

The world premiere of my piece Mure murrab meele ("Worrying Breaks the Spirit") will take place in the Chamber Hall of the Estonian National Opera in Tallinn on Tuesday, April 24 at 6:00 PM (18:00). Maret Alango will conduct the chamber choir Noored Eesti Hääled ("Young Estonian Voices") and the St. Michael's Boys' Choir in a program featuring music inspired by Estonian folk music.

The Villiers Quartet (UK) will be performing Sanctus at St. Andrew's Church, Fulham Fields, London on Sunday, April 29 at 3:00 PM (15:00). This concert will also be streamed online at www.villiersquartet.com in which you can also vote for your favourite piece. Sanctus was selected as one of three finalist pieces in the Villiers Quartet Competition along with Jetez! by Chris Roe (UK) and Threnody/Images by Henry B. Stewart (USA). I am also very excited to be attending the concert and meeting the players of the quartet and the other finalists. Thank you so much to everyone who voted in the online semifinal round of the competition! This competition has been truly exciting!

My studies at the University of Toronto are drawing to a close. These past two years have been amazing and inspiring. Studying with Christos Hatzis has been a joy beyond description. I have met wonderful friends and mentors, enjoyed music both old and new and continued to learn about the art of composition. I am now very much looking forward to spending my summer in Europe and then continuing my studies in the diploma program at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.
