Port of Tallinn Signs Co-operation Memo With Maryland, USA
09 Nov 2012 EWR Online
Estonian Review/BNS
Estonia's Port of Tallinn and the Maryland Port Administration in the United States signed a co-operation memorandum on the promotion of business relations in the logistics sphere.

The memorandum lays down co-operation wishes for the organisation of possible joint activities and exchange of experience in the marketing, information exchange and development activities sphere with the aim of developing trade and transport and logistics business in wider terms between the two ports, Tallinna Sadam said.

One of the concrete opportunities for closer co-operation is the existing shipping route that links the Paldiski South Harbour of the Port of Tallinn and the Baltimore Port. It is a Balticcarrier shipping route in the Splietoff Group opened in September 2010, which goes from ports of the East Coast of the United States, Baltimore in Maryland and Jacksonville in Florida, directly to the Baltic Sea, also visiting the ports of Hamina and St Petersburg and providing maritime shipping services of rolling stock, containers, and project goods.

In co-operation with Tallinna Sadam, Eesti Raudtee and the local logistics companies, the transport corridor is extended via Estonia to Russia, Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries. The direct trade route gives the advantage in terms of cost and time in the shipment of goods from the United States to the Russian and Central Asian markets.

The co-operation agreements was signed in Maryland on Wednesday.
