Nutcracker ballet at Ehatare
16 Dec 2015 Kristiina Mai Valter
With magnificent costumes, music and coreography, the Nutcracker ballet came to life in the cafeteria of Ehatare on Friday, December 11. The production was performed by PSB Dance Academy, directed by Ms. Karen Thomas.

Janne Laanemaa opened the evening by introducing Ms. Thomas, who explained that the dancers range in age from 7-18 years old. This complete story of the Nutcracker included Clara, Mr. Drosselmeier, the snow queen, dances from different countries, the sugar plum fairy, and of course the Nutcracker himself. The initial scene was the preparation for the magnificent Christmas party by the servants, followed by guests arriving in period costume. Clara and the children watched Mr. Drosselmeier arrive, who created a formidable presence. The dance of the toys was followed by gifting the nutcracker doll to Clara.

After nightfall, a mighty battle ensued between the mice and the toy soldiers, led by the rat king and the Nutcracker. Here the Nutcracker was larger than life with a spectacular costume. After he won the victory, beautiful dancers entertained Clara,
starting with swirling snowflakes and the solo of the snow queen. The grand finale was the solo by the sugar plum fairy. During the final bows, all 60 plus dancers came on stage, and took turns receiving the appreciation of the audience.
