National Cyber Security Awareness Month
30 Sep 2010 EWR Online
Embassy of the United States, Tallinn
October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month in the United States and has been recognized in this way since 2001. Sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance, this Awareness Month encourages people to be more aware of their usage of computers and the Internet and to take proactive measures to remain vigilant against the full range of cyber attacks.

This year's overarching theme is "Our Shared Responsibility," which reminds us that the Internet is a shared resource and securing it is our shared responsibility. While this campaign focuses on users in the United States, the issue is one that is important around the world, including here in Estonia.

On October 20, Ambassador Polt will deliver a speech on the topic of cyber security at the Estonian Information Technology College in Tallinn and engage in a discussion with students, academics and members of government. In October of 2009, Larry Clinton, U.S. cyber security expert and head of the Internet Security Alliance, delivered a lecture at the same venue. These examples of meaningful engagement and interaction on this topic of global significance further underscore the fact that if we are to ensure a fully vibrant digital society, we must protect the resource that makes it possible.
