Let’s Do It’s World Cleanup 2012 Conference Began in Tallinn
15 Jan 2012 EWR Online
U.S. Embassy, Tallinn
Representatives from 45 countries, including the United States, artrived in Tallinn on January 13th for a three-day planning conference for the upcoming global cleanup initiative, Let’s Do It World. A number of workshops, presentations and roundtables will be held during the conference to prepare teams for their national or district-level waste-gathering initiatives, and participants will discuss IT-solutions, teamwork organization, waste management, and fundraising during the event.

There will be an opportunity to test the dump mapping software developed by the chief architect of Skype, Ahti Heinla. “Let’s Do It” was begun in Estonia in 2008, when 50,000 volunteers cleaned up 10,000 tons of garbage in just five hours. The project has since spread worldwide, and the U.S. Embassy in Tallinn has been an enthusiastic participant in previous Tallinn cleanups organized by this group.

This year’s ambitious project is to clean the entire world, a project that will begin March 24 and run for six months.
