In an annual rite of spring, thousands of spawning fish are attempting to jump over the country’s famous waterfall Venta Rapid.

The fish are trying to reach the upper part of the river, which is their favorite place for breeding, PressTV reports.

Starting in April and continuing throughout the spring, the fish jumping is a popular attraction for tourists, already drawn to see Europe’s widest waterfall at 270 meters (886 feet).

The famed “salmon run” of the Pacific Northwest is a similar phenomenon, when salmons migrate, swimming upstream and sometimes even jumping a waterfall in order to spawn.
