JBANC's Tenth Baltic Conference - April 19-20, 2013
31 Mar 2013 JBANC
(Washington, DC) - The Joint Baltic American National Committee, Inc. (JBANC) is pleased to announce that William Browder, the former employer of whistleblowing Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, will speak at its Tenth Baltic Conference, being held April 19-20 on the outskirts of Washington DC.

William Browder is the CEO and co-founder of Hermitage Capital Management in London. He is helping to lead the successful international campaign against authorities in Russia who not only stole his company’s assets there but contributed to the death of his lawyer Sergei Magnitsky. Mr. Browder’s efforts led to the passage of the Magnitsky Act in the United States Congress last December, a measure that was strongly supported by JBANC. That law mandates visa restrictions and asset freezes against not only those involved in the Magnitsky case, but against other human rights offenders in the Russian Federation.

Besides discussion about developments surrounding the Magnitsky case, and the rising authoritarianism and disregard for human rights by Putin’s regime, other main conference themes will center on Baltic-Nordic cooperation, cyber- and energy security, disinformation, and a look at Estonia’s, Latvia’s and Lithuania’s relationships with the United States.

The Crystal City Marriott, site of the conference, is offering a special hotel room rate for attendees at $119/night if reservations are booked by March 19, 2013. Reservations can be made by calling either 1-800-228-9290 or 1-703-413-5500 and mentioning JBANC's conference.

In addition to its April 19-20 conference, JBANC is also coordinating with the Central and East European Coalition (CEEC) to have its annual Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill on April 18.

Additional information about the conference will be made available shortly on JBANC’s website and via its Facebook and Twitter pages. For questions related to the events, please contact JBANC at: or at 301-340-1954.

JBANC represents the Estonian American National Council, Inc., the American Latvian Association in the U.S., and the Lithuanian American Council, Inc.
