Eesti keeles

The Estonian League of the West Coast sends greetings on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of Estonian Independence. We invite everyone to San Francisco from June 28 through July 1 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the West Coast Estonian Festival – Lääneraniku Eesti Päevad, and ESTO 2013.
This is the first time that the West Coast Estonian Festival will be held in conjunction with the worldwide ESTO Festival, enhancing this cultural event and its attendance. Over 1,000 Estonians are expected from around the globe; coming to experience the beauty of Northern California and the hospitality of the local Bay-Area Estonian community.

Festival headquarters is in the heart of San Francisco, at Union Square, the vibrant shopping and cultural center of the City-by-the-Bay. Accommodations are arranged at 4-star hotels, for a most reasonable $159 per night. The LEP/ESTO venues are either within walking distance or accessible using transportation services arranged by the Festival. No need for a car – it’s not needed.
Events and venues that merit special mention include:
• Opening Night Show at the magnificent Palace of Fine Arts, produced by the principal dancer of the San Francisco Ballet, Estonian Tiit Helimets and featuring the North American debut of the Estonian National Ballet
• Premier of Jim & Maureen Tusty’s sequel to “The Singing Revolution”. Their new film is: “Songs of Defiance”
• Keynote speech at The Business EXPO, from one of the top Venture Capitalists in the world, Estonian Steve Jürvetson
• A unique chess tournament, where enthusiasts play simultaneously against Estonian Chess Master Jaan Ehlvest
• A fabulous Folk Festival at beautiful Castle Rock Park
• Dance Festival at renowned Yerba Buena Gardens and Song Festival at historic Calvary Presbyterian Church – both featuring performances by Estonians from around the globe
• The elegant “Blue, Black and White” Gala Ball at the 4-Star Grand Hyatt Hotel, featuring piano virtuoso, Estonian Hando Nahkur and many additional surprises
• Even the “Puus Brothers Band” has agreed to dust off their instruments and make an appearance at Salakôrts, along with top bands and performers from Estonia
In short, these are not “Your Parents’ Eesti Päevad”. They are yours – contemporary, lively and spectacular. The objective: to unite Estonians from around the globe - those who have lived in North America for decades – and equally, or perhaps more importantly, those who have arrived recently. Young and old! All generations! Each of us sharing stories, experiences and aspirations for the future. It’s now up to you! Join us! You will not regret it!

Happy Independence Day! Long live free and democratic Estonia!
