In July, the consumer price index was influenced the most by housing expenditures

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index was 0.2% in July 2012 compared to June and 3.6% compared to July of the previous year.

Goods were 2.7% and services 5.3% more expensive compared to July 2011.

Regulated prices of goods and services have risen by 7.9% and non-regulated prices by 2.1% compared to June of the previous year.

Compared to July 2011, the index was mainly influenced by housing expenditures which gave almost a half of the total increase. Of which in turn three quarters gave 11.6% more expensive electricity, heat energy and fuels. Food and non-alcoholic beverages gave a fourth of the total increase, of which 7% more expensive meat and meat products accounted over 40% and vegetables accounted for a third. 6.7% more expensive motor fuel gave nearly a tenth of the total increase. Compared to July of the previous year, of food products, the prices of fresh vegetables have increased the most (23%) and the prices of potatoes have decreased the most (58%).

Compared to the same month of the previous year, the change of the consumer price index was last below 3.6% in August 2010, when it was 2.9%.

Compared to June, the consumer price index was mainly influenced by the seasonal sales of clothing and footwear and the price increase of housing services mainly on account of heat energy (2.7%) and gas (8.2%). Compared to the previous month, the prices of carrots increased the most (74%) and the prices of paprika decreased the most (39%).
