Today Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced his plan to lower taxes on job-creating small businesses over the next four years as part of his low-tax, balanced budget program of economic growth and job creation.

“Small businesses represent almost 99 percent of all businesses in the country and employ nearly 70 percent of all Canadians working in the private sector,” said the Prime Minister. “Our Conservative Government is on their side and our low-tax plan is helping them succeed and grow.”

The Conservative government’s low-tax, balanced budget plan has consistently lowered taxes on Canada’s small businesses. Building on this record, a re-elected Harper Government will deliver on its plan to further lower the small business tax rate from 11 percent to 9 percent over the next four years. This tax cut – the largest tax rate cut for small businesses in more than 25 years – will provide $2.7 billion in tax relief to nearly 700,000 small businesses over this period.

“We understand that small businesses are of vital importance to Canada’s economic future,” the Prime Minister explained. “Their success is linked to Canada’s success, and this new tax relief will help small businesses support economic growth and job creation now and in the future.”

The Prime Minister noted that Justin’s Liberals and Thomas Mulcair’s NDP have voted against the Conservative government’s small business tax cuts and have both set out agendas that would hike taxes significantly on small businesses.

“Justin Trudeau disparages small business owners,” Prime Minister Harper said. “He claims, incredibly, that most small businesses are just schemes for wealthy Canadians to avoid paying taxes. It’s yet another sign of his economic illiteracy and unreadiness.”

“Thomas Mulcair purports to support small businesses,” the Prime Minister said. “But the fact is that he’s also promising business and payroll tax hikes that will hurt small businesses and undermine job creation.”

“Only our Conservative government has the proven experience and the plan to keep taxes low and the economy moving forward by supporting Canada’s small businesses,” the Prime Minister concluded.

Most of the "old-stock" Estonians (I mean the refugee generation) were firsthand victims of the state that took over all aspects of citizens' lives. Conservatives are the only ones who are reducing the state's involvement in personal lives, stress individual responsibility and stand up against the only existential threat that Estonia is facing.

What are the Liberal's and NDP's positions regarding Putin and his activities? For Estonians, nothing else really matters.

Of course, 2 generations later and having forgotten the lessons of their parents and grandparents, some Estonian Canadians have grown soft and sympathetic to socialist views.

Not so for NDP MP Craig Scott in Danforth riding, who has held town halls at Eesti Maja. He has opposed Harper's gutting of the Navigable Waters Protection Act and the Conservatives' defunding of the Experimental Lakes Area.

Astonishingly federal laws under the current government have undermined small farmers' seed rights. Talk about the fate of small businesses! I know about this because my MP has fought against this threat to small farmers and food security.

I know many Estonians who vote for their social democrat MP or MPP. The social democratic perspective is significant in other Estonian communities worldwide.

Is it EWR's intention to be partisan in its coverage of Canadian politics? If so, with what implications for a "world" review?
