The grand prizes of the Foreign Ministry’s web-based Estonia Quiz, trips to Estonia, went to winners in the United States and Russia. The winners were randomly drawn by Foreign Ministry Secretary General Alar Streimann together with the sponsors that helped make the quiz possible.
The goal of the Foreign Ministry Estonia quiz is to introduce Estonia to citizens of other countries by offering participants new and interesting facts in the hopes of inspiring them to do further research into Estonia and visit the country.
This year’s quiz was filled out by 12 407 participants from 132 countries. Secretary General Streimann stated that this is a record for the number of participants since 2002, when the Foreign Ministry quizzes began. “The great number of participants reflects a diverse interest in Estonia. In addition to our close neighbours, responses also came from practically every corner of the earth, for example Nepal, Ghana, Mongolia, New Zealand, and Gambia,” Streimann noted.
The most responses came from Russia, the United States, Ukraine, Latvia, Germany, and Belarus.
The quiz was posted online in two languages. There were 7 540 participants in the English-language quiz and 4 900 in the Russian-language quiz. The total number of people that answered all the questions correctly was 10 462.
