U.S. Embassy Tallinn, January 23, 2014
In a highly competitive contest of Estonian American innovative partnerships, mobile payment solution provider Fortumo took home the winning trophy at the Estonian American Innovation Award ceremony today, which featured Foreign Minister Urmas Paet and U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey D.Levine.

ERPLY, a point of sale and inventory management start-up, was declared the runner up and eight other business/non-profit partnerships received special recognition as finalists. These were: Bole Floor and Form, Cybernetica, Guardtime, Marinexplore, NOW! Innovations, Pipedrive, Plumbr and Secured3D.

Addressing an audience of Estonian and U.S. businesses, civil society and government representatives and students, Ambassador Levine said, “Like our cooperation on international affairs and security, our business, technology and civil society links are important elements of the successful Estonian-American partnership. Today’s award highlights that partnership and the spirit of innovation behind it.”

The annual award is a cooperative project of the U.S. Embassy, the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation (BAFF), and the American Chamber of Commerce in Estonia (AmCham). Initiated in 2011, it recognizes innovation by Estonians in partnership with Americans in a broad range of fields. As winner, Fortumo will receive 10,000 euros, and the runner up, ERPLY, will receive 5,000 euros.
