Fire Quelled at Estonia's Intelligence Service

Last night a fire broke out at the archive room of Teabeamet, known in English as the Information Board - the Estonian foreign intelligence service.

Due to the service's internal regulations, fire brigades' access to the building, which is located in Tallinn, was limited, reported ETV.

An automatic fire suppression system quelled the flames and the firemen were only tasked with ventilating the room.

“As we are dealing with a facility like the Information Board, practically all rescue services in Tallinn were diverted here. Naturally this includes the police and ambulances,” said Martin Vallimäe, a spokesperson for the Rescue Board.

The Information Board has not so far commented on how the fire started or the what extent of the damage was.

The Information Board, which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defense, collects intelligence concerning foreign countries, and developments and events abroad, for the formulation of foreign, economic and defense policy. The Information Board also performs counter-intelligence functions for Estonian diplomatic missions and Defense Forces units stationed abroad.
