TALLINN, Estonia – The celebration of Chanukah in Estonia got underway with the lighting of the first candle of the Menorah at a gathering held in the Tallinn synagogue. Chief Rabbi of Estonia Shmuel Kot pointed out that since the first night of the holiday was on Friday night, the first candle had to be lit before Shabbat began.
