Those investing in Estonia's forestry industry may welcome the news that the country has been ranked in the top 25 for global incoming foreign investments index as compiled by the United Nations.

According to the Baltic Course, the 2009 data puts Estonia in 22nd place out of a total of 141 nations, with Luxembourg taking the top spot.

The index examines the ratio between each country's share of global foreign investment and the share of its gross domestic product within the global economy.

In 2008, Estonia came in at number 37, which means it has moved up by 15 places in 12 months.

In 2005, the country was ranked in third place, suggesting that the global recession may have had an impact on investment in the county.

With a recovery now underway, Estonia may be able to claw its way back up in the years ahead, attracting investment from a number of companies and individuals in a range of sectors, including forestry.
