Jonathan Stearns, businessweek.com June 2 (Bloomberg) -- Estonia gained wider support to adopt the euro in 2011 when a European Parliament committee endorsed the step, highlighting Europe’s push to restore confidence in the single currency amid the debt crisis.
The approval by the assembly’s economic and monetary affairs committee today in Brussels comes three weeks after the European Commission said the Baltic country passes the economic tests to become the euro area’s 17th member in seven months. The 27-nation Parliament’s powers in this area are limited to a right to be consulted rather than to set policy.
