We add our congratulations to thoracic surgeon and pulmonary specialist Dr. Tanel Laisaar, recently chosen as Postimees Person of the Year for 2010. Postimees' choice of Dr. Laisaar acknowledges his contributions to Estonian medicine, and to world health.

Under his leadership the first ever lung transplant in Estonia was conducted in October of this year. The surgery was conducted at Tartu University Hospital with great success. Dr. Laisaar also created a medical transplant system in Estonia. He now joins the ranks of other Estonian luminaries including Olympic champions, other scientists and even Estonian soldiers who served in Iraq-all of whom have been recipients of this honor in the past.
