Children and students invited to the creative contest ‘My Future Estonia’
28 Mar 2013 EWR Online
Ministry of Defence 27.03.2013
Today, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education and Research announced a drawing, multimedia and essay writing contest entitled ‘My Future Estonia’ for children and students; the winners will be awarded with iPads and iPhones.

Defence Minister Urmas Reinsalu said that the day on which the contest was announced – 27 March – carries a symbolic meaning. “Lasting Liberty Day offers a good opportunity to invite children and pupils to celebrate this historically significant day and to think about the future of their homeland and themselves”, Reinsalu noted.

The chair of the panel of jury, artist Anu Kalm, emphasized that it is both important and educational to stimulate the creativity of children and young people and that the theme of the contest is also both necessary and topical. “On the one hand it is essential to make young people think about values in a concentrated manner by offering them, on the other hand, a creative way of addressing the issue. This kind of activity will without doubt bring them together and make them think not only of themselves but also about others,” said Kalm.

The deadline for submitting projects for the competition is 27 April. The projects submitted will be divided into four age categories for marking: 3 to 5 year olds and 6 to 9 year olds, who are invited to send their drawings, and 10 to 14 year olds and 15 to 19 year olds, who can choose between essay writing or a multimedia project.
