Celebrating Twenty Years on Kentmanni Street
07 Feb 2012 EWR Online
U.S. Embassy, Tallinn, February 6, 2012
Twenty years ago this week, the United States Embassy re-opened its doors here on Kentmanni 20—doors which had been closed fifty two years earlier in the months following the Soviet Occupation. When then Vice President Dan Quayle came to Estonia and its Baltic neighbors to open our Missions and to finalize the presence of our nation’s Peace Corps in this region, he stated that he was proud to be the first-ever United States Vice President to visit Estonia and added, “The American people admire and support you in this time of transition.”

Our admiration for this nation and it citizens continues through today; we are proud of our Embassy and the road we have travelled together with our Estonian hosts and friends—many of whom form the very backbone of our Mission and without whom we could not fulfill our charter. No one could have foreseen where this nation would go in a brief twenty years, but we are incredibly pleased that our Embassy here on Kentmanni Street has facilitated the partnership between our two nations and peoples and with the ever-increasing pace of history, we greatly look forward to where we our nations will be twenty years from now.
