Brahms and Pärt
10 Jan 2012 EWR Online
On Saturday February 4, 2012, Kitchener Waterloo's Grand Philharmonic Choir will give a performance of two works by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. A rare performance of his 1968 composition Credo will be given at Kitchener's Centre in the Square with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. As you may know, the premiere performance of this piece in Tallinn created a such a stir that it was banned for further performance in the Soviet Union. Soon after Pärt entered a period of self imposed silence as a composer; when we began composing again in the late 1970s it was a a completely different composer. Our performance at Kitchener's Centre in the Square will also include Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten, one of the earliest of Pärt's pieces in the new tintinnabuli style.

And, on Sunday January 29 at 2:30pm the choir will host a screening of a documentary film on the life of Arvo Pärt: 24 Preludes for a Fugue at Waterloo's Princess Twin Cinema. Details about both events can be found on our website:

Attached to this email are some promotional materials for the concert on February 4. Would it be possible to have this event publicized through your website and/or newspaper? I would be happy to discuss any questions that you might have.
