As many of you know, the events over the past few weeks in Ukraine and Crimea in particular, have been very disturbing. On Sunday March 16th, a "Referendum" will be held in Crimea to determine if Crimea wishes unification with the Russian Federation. This is a "Referendum" that will be conducted while foreign "supported" troops are controlling the region.

Come out on Sunday for the "Walking Rally Against Fraudulent Crimean Referendum"

Sunday March 16, 2014
3:00PM - Yonge & Dundas Square, Toronto

The March will follow this route:
- South on Yonge St.
- West on Queen St.
- North on University Ave. (stop at US Consulate)
- East on Edward St.
- North on Bay St. (stop at British Consulate)
- East on Bloor St. (stop on German & French Consulate)
- East on Bloor St. to Church Street (Russian Consulate)

Our goal is to have a large representation of people from the Baltic Community, to show that we are also against this Fraudulent Referendum.

This issue is not a local Ukrainian issue, but has far reaching consequences. While this “Referendum” does not impact the Baltic countries directly, this sets a precedent for future annexations by the Putin Regime.

For Estonia and Latvia that have regions with large Russian populations, and to a lesser extent Lithuania, this could happen to our countries.

In the Estonian example, a similar situation could easily occur in the Narva Region, which has a large Russian population. A "rift" with the Russian population and/or the Russian Government (similar to what occurred in 2007 with the moving of the Soviet Bronze Soldier), could in the future lead to Russian "supported" troops occupying parts of Estonia to "protect" the Russian population and implementing a "referendum". Similar events could occur in Latvia and Lithuania.

This tactic has already been used in 2008 in Ossetia, Georgia and now it is occurring in Ukraine. Future countries that could be impacted by this tactic are Moldova, the Baltics and any former Soviet Union countries.

The time to act is now. The Baltic Community of Toronto needs to stand beside our Ukrainian neighbours and show that this type of bullying and abuse of international law will not be tolerated.

COME OUT ON SUNDAY WITH YOUR ESTONIAN, LATVIAN, LITHUANIAN AND CANADIAN FLAGS TO SHOW OUR SUPPORT THAT UKRAINE IS NOT ALONE. ATTACH BLUE AND YELLOW RIBBONS TO YOUR FLAG POLE TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR UKRAINE.

It is important to note that this is not a protest against the Russian people, but is against Russian President Putin and his government.

This event has been organized by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, but this information is being passed on to you by members of the Baltic Community.
