Baltic Remembrance Day
26 May 2009 JBANC
At the Victims of Communism Memorial in Washington

(JBANC) – Perhaps a relative of yours – a grandparent, an uncle or cousin – was forced onto the train on June 14, 1941 and deported to the Soviet Gulag (forced labor/concentration camp). Perhaps the deported were friends, teachers or neighbors.

On Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 4:00 to 5:00 PM Baltic Americans will gather in Washington, DC for a brief ceremony to remember all those lost to Soviet brutality, including those in the first deportation. We will gather to let the world know that those thousands of human beings have not been forgotten.

Please come to the first Baltic Remembrance Day on Sunday, June 14 at 4:00 to 5:00 PM, at the intersection of Massachusetts Ave, G Street and New Jersey Ave. The intersection is located a few blocks west of Union Station.

Names of those who were deported will be read aloud throughout the ceremony. If you have a person or several people whom you would like remembered, please send the person’s name, age, labor camp name or other relevant information to Karl Altau at or come to read the name yourself.
