Allies in Law Enforcement: Estonia's New Forensics Lab
28 Jan 2011 EWR Online
U.S. Embassy, Tallinn, January 28, 2011
In an official ceremony on Wednesday, the main building of the Estonian Forensic Science Institute (EKEI) was opened. Numerous high-ranking Estonian officials were in attendance, as were representatives of the FBI, and the U.S. Secret Service. The Institute's lab, which is modeled on the FBI Forensics lab in Quantico, Virginia, includes some of the most modern crime-fighting and forensic technology in the world.

The gleaming nine story building is unique in that it is the first time in the history of forensic science that all key tests and analyses will be able to be conducted under the same roof. The unveiling of this building marks a key milestone in Estonia's ability to combat domestic crime and also strengthens its already-substantial role in being a strong international ally of the United States in the law enforcement realm. During the opening speeches appreciation was expressed for the cooperation of the Embassy, as well as the guidance and support of the FBI and the United States law enforcement community.
